Exhibition "Dragutin Gavrilovic – Major with the rank of Colonel" opened

In the Small Gallery of the Central Military Club, the exhibition entitled "Dragutin Gavrilovic – Major with the rank of Colonel" has been opened.

At the opening ceremony, the participants were addressed by: Lieutenant Colonel Zoran Krupez, Deputy Director of Odbrana Media Centre and Ivan Stratimirovic on behalf of the Civic Association “The Culture of Cyrillic”. The exhibition was opened by Radivoj Bojovic, author of the exhibition.

- Many of you who regularly follow events at the Central Military Club, know our tendency to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War in the best possible way, an event that changed the world and is considered one of the pillars of the historical identity of our nation, Lieutenant Colonel Zoran Krupez, Deputy Director of Odbrana Media Centre said, welcoming the guests.

He said that the Ministry of Defence endeavours, through a number of publications of Media Centre, various exhibitions and raising memorials on the occasion of significant jubilees, to save from oblivion events and people, bright examples of struggle for the ideals that we are aspiring to even today.

Ivan Stratimirovic, on behalf of the Civic Association “The Culture of Cyrillic”, said that he was honoured that the cultural public of Belgrade and visitors of the Central Military Club had the opportunity to learn about the officer career of Colonel Dragutin Gavrilovic that was shown on the basis of photographs, documents and personal belongings.

Opening the exhibition, Radivoj Bojovic, author of the exhibition, said that this was the most visited exhibition in the history of the National Museum in Cacak, which was seen so far by more than 200,000 visitors.

- Through original documents, texts and photographs, the audience will be able to get acquainted with a soldier of the old style. Not only that he was the holder of the highest decorations: Star of Karadjordje with Swords, Order of the White Eagle, the French War Cross, but Gavrilovic was also the father of five children who inherited from him clean face and honour. That is why we remember him, because we wish to refer young people to such examples, because these are the ones who are always needed to their fatherland, Bojovic said.

Odbrana Media Centre organized the exhibition in cooperation with the Association of Descendants of Veterans from the Serbian Wars from 1912 to 1920 and the Civic Association “The Culture of Cyrillic”. The fine art audience will have an opportunity to see the exhibition in the Small Gallery of the Central Military Club on working days and Saturdays until 2nd July 2016, from 11 am to 7 pm.
