Promotion of the book "Bloody Trail of the Great War"
In the Atrium of the Central Military Club today, a book entitled "Bloody Trail of the Great War", from "Edition 1914-1918", has been presented. It describes the crimes of Austria-Hungary and its allies in the First World War, in the light of the Austrian documents.The authors are Hans Hautman, the Austrian history professor, and Milos Kazimirovic, a journalist of Politika daily. The book was published in cooperation between Serbian Broadcasting Corporation and the Prometheus publishing house.
Zoran Kolundzija, editor in chief of Prometheus, Dr Milos Kovic, a historian, Dragan Indjic, publishing editor of SBC, and the authors, spoke about the book
Kovic pointed out that the history of the First World War was not well understood and that it is "the history of attrition and oppression of whole peoples".
Professor Hautman was surprised by the interest of the audience at today's promotion, because, in his words, "this theme in Austria has been deliberately neglected".
- I have written on this subject for years but it saw the "light of day" when Kazimirovic asked me to collaborate on the book. I enthusiastically agreed, because it has been unfairly forgotten topics, the Austrian historian said.As Kazimirovic pointed out, motive to write this book was not heroism, no victory, no Albanian calvary, but the suffering of the civilian population.
- This other calvary – the civilian one inspired me. The book is dedicated to the suffering of civilian victims that are forgotten everywhere, not only in Austria, the journalist pointed out and added that a century after the Great War, the myth on heroism of armies from all over the world, and the civilian war victims, their suffering, names and number are only superficially documented.
Kolundzija and Indjic spoke about the joint project "Edition 1914-1918", noting that so far have not done much, though historiography does not address this issue at all, or not sufficiently engaged.
