Monograph “Serbian Officer's Sabre M. 1895/1995” promoted

In the crowded atrium of the Central Military Club today, a monograph "Serbian Officer's Sabre" by Dusica Velemir Tanaskovic has been promoted. It is a book that integrates data on the use of the sabre through Serbian history and the way it passed from a part of armament to a symbol of officer’s profession. The promotion was attended by the State Secretary Nenad Neric, representatives of the Military Academy and Odbrana Media Centre.

Retired generals Milomir Miladinovic, Bosko Antic and Vidosav Kovacevic, and the journalist and MP Miroslav Lazanski spoke at the promotion, among others.

The ceremony was opened by Colonel Stevica Karapandzin, Director of the Media Centre, who reminded the audience of the importance of sabre as a symbol of honour and military drill actions with it, which, as he said, also in modern conditions, had a great impact on strengthening ties and feeling of belonging to a military unit.

Lieutenant General retired Milomir Miladinovic recalled his first encounter with the officer's sabre at the beginning of his military career, and described what inspired him to write the foreword to the monograph which has been promoted today. Bosko Antic, Rear Admiral, retired, spoke about the impressions that he got as a Head of the School of National Defence assigning the sabres to the participants in the highest level of military professional advanced studies.

The former Commandant of the Military Academy, Major General Vidosav Kovacevic, spoke about the time when the officer's sword re-entered the National Assembly with the participants in the National Defence School. Miroslav Lazanski took the opportunity to tell a few, not so well-known, anecdotes from the Second World War that illustrate the importance of sabres.

Dusica Velemir Tanaskovic, the author of the monograph, thanked the people who talked about the book and reminded that each of them bore a long history of friendship and support to restoring sabres among the officer corps. She thanked the Ministry of Defence and Odbrana Media Centre for the support she had received.

The monograph "Serbian Officer's Sabre" is released on the twentieth anniversary of the creation of the first new sabre which is used today in the Serbian Armed Forces and which is awarded to the most successful cadets of the Military Academy and participants in the highest levels of advanced studies in the defence system.
