Chief of General Staff visits Book Fair

Today, the collegiums of the Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff and the defence minister visited the Book Fair and the booth of the Odbrana Media Centre. Having welcomed them, Colonel Stevica Karapandzin, Director of the Odbrana Media Centre, briefly presented the offer for this year's fair. Colonel Karapandzin highlighted the success of the ‘Field Marshals’ edition, one of publications by which Odbrana joins the celebration of 100 years since the First World War, this year as well.

"As I was informed, all copies of the ‘Field Marshals’ edition "were sold out", Karapandzin stated. Director of the Media Centre briefly presented the other works of this year's production as well. "There are 'The River Flotilla 1915-2015' by Bosko Antic and Dragan Spasojevic, then 'Infectious diseases in the Serbian people and the army during the wars in the 20th century – work of the Serbian Medical Corps for their prevention and treatment', by Dragan Mikic, 'From the partisan medical service to medical army service 1941-1945' by Veljko Todorovic and Branislav Popovic and '140 years of the military Geography Institute' by Radoje Bankovic, Slavisa Tatomirovic, Dejan Djordjevic, Marko Milasinovic, Karapandzin said. "Aleksandra Pecinar made an excellent book on the Serbian-Greek allied and diplomatic relations during World War II. This year we have works on religious service in the Serbian Army in the First World War, about Jovan Dragasevic, downing of the so called ‘Night hawk’ i.e. F-117, then about fighter planes in World War II, the Royal Air Force, energy security and gas-related geopolitics, political delicts and assassinations, secret societies and their goals, knowledge of ordnance."

Recalling that he said a year ago that Odbrana will not change a winning team, Karapandzin presented a book on the Serbs as military commanders in the Russian military by Dusan Babac, an old associate of this publishing house, as part of such a practice. Director of the Media Centre announced that Odbrana should continue its celebration of a century since World War II by issuing the diary of Dusan Stefanovic, Minister of War at the time of this great conflict, ‘The war between Serbia and Austria’ by Zivko Pavlovic, and the diary of Kosta Vojinovic Kosovac, an Executive Officer from Kosovo and Metohija. Also, a reprint edition of the former magazine ‘Ratnik’ (Warrior) with full bibliography should soon appear. Karapandzin recalled the last year's invitation to work on fostering military thought and activating the officers to write.

Guests were addressed by Milos Jankovic, Assistant Minister for Human Resources, who welcomed the idea of activating members of the Serbian Armed Forces to deal with the writing of professional works. "Today it is clear that the book, as we know it, will survive despite the emergence of new tendencies, and whatever the form, it is certainly necessary to the military profession and the studies at the Military Academy", Jankovic said. "Therefore, what Media Centre does makes sense, as well as the Book Fair itself. It remains to see and find the right way and modality how to encourage and reward such engagement of the Armed Forces members".
