Concert of the First Belgrade Singing company in the Central Military Club



On occasion of the 15th February - Day of the Republic of Serbia, , a concert of the the First Belgrade Singing Company under the direction of Svetlana Vilic, art director and conductor of the choir will be held in the Conference Hall of the Central Military Club on Wednesday 13th February at 19.00 pm.

The programme will feature works of Josif Marinkovic, Davorin Jenko, Miodrag Govedarica, Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac, Vojislav Ilic, Marko Tajcevic, Kornelije Stankovic and other composers.

Ljubivoje Tadic, our acclaimed actor will recite the poems and from the play "Tesla or taming of the angels" by Stevan Pesic. The entrance is free of charge.

First Belgrade Singing Company was founded on the day of St. Basil the Great, 14 January 1853. Over time it grew into a national institution that preserves and continues the Serbian musical and spiritual tradition. An extremely rich history of the First Belgrade Singing Society is, also, the history of cultural and spiritual rising of our country. The oldest choir in Serbia was the Serbian king’s envoy of culture per se, playing in the courts of greatest rulers of Europe. As the choir of the Royal Court, it took part in the coronation ceremonies of all Serbian rulers and patriarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Company directors and choir leaders were the most important composers and conductors of Serbia: Stevan Morkanjac, Kornelije Stankovic, Josif Marinkovic, Davorin Jenko, Stanislav Binicki, Kosta Manojlovic, Stevan Hristic Milojevic, Aleksandar Gavanski, Vojislav Ilic, Dimitrije Stefanovic, Dusan Miladinovic, Bojan Sudjic, Lepa Ljubojevic, Vladimir Milosavljevic ... The company had its golden era during 30 years of work of our most illustrious composer Stevan Stojanovic Mokranjac as art director and conductor. European papers reported the singing company to be one of the best choirs of the world at that time.

From January 2004, Scvetalna Vilic worked y as conductor and manager of the choir. President of the choir is Protopresbyter Petar Lukic, head of the Orthodox Church in Belgrade. The company has held many successful concerts in the country and the world. They sing at Sunday worship services and public holidays in the Orthodox church in Belgrade and are under the protection and patronage of His Holiness the Serbian Patriarch.
