The Exhibition “Lubarda So far Unseen”

Last night the exhibition “Lubarda So far Unseen” was opened in the House of Jevrem Grujić, the first private museum in Serbia. The exhibition marks one hundred and tenth anniversary of the birth of the famous artist. The presented works belong to the collections of the Heritage House, Central Military Club, Gallery of Matica srpska, National museum of Pančevo and private collections. Certain works of Petar Lubarda were presented to the viewing audience for the first time. The organisers of the exhibition, which is going to last until 1st May 2017, are the Media Centre “Odbrana”, Heritage House and House of Jevrem Grujić.

Apart from Lazar Šećerović, Aleksandar Conić greeted the present on behalf of the host and said that Lubarda had been “a great  artist and if his last name had been Polok, his work would have been presented in the greatest museums of the world”.

After the speech by a representative of the Heritage House, Gallery of Matica srpska and the National Museum of Pančevo, the exhibition was officially opened by Colonel Stevica S. Karapandžin, Director of the Media Centre “Odbrane” who said that Lubarda “unselfishly left us the bequest of his work, whose reach during his life time was directed towards the heavenly heights and after his death, towards the infinite”.

Among numerous guests, the event was attended by the Minister of Culture and Information, Vladan Vukosavlјević, who emphasised how great a pleasure it was being able to see such an exhibition of Lubards’s work in our capital.

In 1950s of the last century, Lubarda was one of the main trump cards of new Yugoslav cultural politics within international frames. The exhibition in the House of Jevrem Grujić consists of 24 pieces of art created in the period from 1936 to 1970s of the 20th century, but it also includes a part of personal archives, drawings and graphics of the artist.
