The presentation of the book “Era of Russian gas – gas and global security”
The Book “Era of Russian gas – gas and global security” written by Dr. Srecko Djukic and promoted today in the Central Military Club of the Serbian Armed Forces represents only ostensibly the interesting step out from the usual publishing work of the Media Centre “Odbrana” mostly marked by historic and military publications. Although the writer put the economic category, that is gas as energy of the future in the centre of his perennial research, the title of the book implies much more. Dr. Djukic warns us from the beginning that energy represents new, the most modern and increasingly effective weapons, which will influence global security and (re)arrangement of the world to a great extent.The Chief Editor of the publishing activity at the Media Centre “Odbrana”, Dragana Markovic, the reviewer Prof. Dr. Dusan Prorokovic, the journalist Jelica Putnikovic and the writer spoke about the book. Emphasizing that the latest book by Dr. Srecko Djukic besides comprehensive analysis of the world energetic capacities, especially significant gas resources of the Russian Federation and its influence on the world economic and political course, inter alia, offers an overview of international relations from the period of the Cold War until now, the promoters wholeheartedly recommended him to numerous book lovers, who followed the promotion with great interest. The promoters stressed that the special value and distinctive quality of the monograph “Era of Russian gas – gas and global security” was the fact that the author did not limit himself to the description of relations between key players on the international scene so far, and he became engrossed in predicting the future events with arguments.
Talking about the work on the book, the author Dr. Srecko Djukic, the career diplomat in several countries for years, said that natural gas increasingly transfers from energy resource into global policy resource, thus the international relations should be discussed through energy security. After oil, the energy source, which marked the 20th century, natural gas becomes almost the most important factor of the international relations in the 21st century. The countries which possess it in great quantities like the Russian Federation, Algeria, Iran and Qatar, due to their reserves, become the subject of considerable interest of great powers.Dealing with the issue of energy security for years, the great diplomatic experience of the author and expressed analytic approach to research result in the fact that conclusions and predictions presented in the book seem convincing, although not always optimistic. Due to the current topic, a myriad of published data and manner in which they were commented and interpreted, this book, written in an understandable and clear language is interesting to wider audience and professional public, and according to the publisher, it also has scientific importance, especially for those ones who should answer the question why the European energy routes pass over Serbia.
