Presenting the monograph "Military Intelligence Service in Serbia"
In the Conference Hall of the "Odbrana" Media Centre, monograph "Military Intelligence Service in Serbia" has been presented today as the first work of its kind intended for the general public. The meeting was attended by the President of the National Assembly, Nebojsa Stefanovic, Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff Ljubisa Dikovic, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, defence attaches of many countries, church dignitaries and guests.
Addressing the gathering on behalf of the members of Military Intelligence Agency, Brigadier General Dragan Vladisavljevic pointed out that this book is an opportunity to leave a mark about the "shadow people," military intelligence, about whose victims and the heroic deeds the public has not been sufficiently informed.
- This work is historical evidence of continuity of service, a reminder that military intelligence function in Serbia is as old as the country and that its army has never lost its significance. At the same time, it is valuable for gaining knowledge and experience from the past – General Vladisavljevic said adding that, throughout history, the role of the service remained the same – to discover the intentions of originators of the security threats, to prevent surprise and to timely warn the state and military leadership.
In the continuation of the gathering the speakers about the importance of the monograph were the book reviewer, General Retired Branko Krga, Director of the National Library of Serbia Dejan Ristic and a member of the Editorial Board Major Dragan Savic, agreeing in their assessment that it is the right time to present such a testimony about the duration of the service both to readers and experts, breaking stereotypes about covertness of the service.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Slavoljub Markovic, Director of the "Odbrana" Media Centre, that is publisher of the monograph, it is a pearl of publishing activity, and as he announced the monograph about the Military Security Agency is under preparation.
Printed in Serbian and English, monograph is richly illustrated by photographs and documents from military archives, many of which have not been made public so far.
