Exhibition of Paintings from the Art Collection of the Central Military Club opens in Jagodina
Exhibition of Paintings Poetics and the fate of the twentieth century has opened tonight in Jagodina Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art. This is a representative selection of images from the rich art collection of the Central Military Club of the Serbian Armed Forces, by an art historian Nikola Kusovac and former Head of the Gallery of the Central Military Club Milorad Bubanja.
The exhibition consists of works of Sava Šumanovic, Jovan Bijelic, Ljuba Ivanovic, Petar Lubarda, Ljubo Babic, Lazar Vujaklija, Vlah Bukovac, Pedja Milosavljevic, Krsto Hegedusic, Marko Čelebonovic, and other eminent authors from the former Yugoslav republics.
Opening the exhibition, which, as part of the cooperation and exchange of the Odbrana Media Centre with museums, galleries, bequests, endowments and other cultural institutions in Serbia, so far was available for art lovers in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Zrenjanin, one of the authors, art historian Nikola Kusovac, said that in these parts the military has always nurtured the culture and cared about "educating the people" and that the collection that Odbrana Media Centre takes care of today is priceless treasure which testifies to the existence of Yugoslav cultural space.
- These are all representative works. After passing through these collections to see the most eminent Croatian, Slovenian and Serbian painters, you can realize that this collection contains the best pieces from this area that no one else has. With this exhibition you will not be able to follow the trends of development of the Yugoslav artistic creativity, but you will definitely, wherever you look, walk on the tips.
The renowned art historian warmly recommended the setting, as a "unique event for a genuine enjoyment" before which the lungs fill with splendour and proves that we have to be proud.
Director of Odbrana Media Centre Lieutenant Colonel Slavoljub Markovic expressed joy that the exhibition continues cooperation with the Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art in Jagodina that started with the last year exhibition by Dusan Jeftovic in the Central Military Club.
- Our common goal is to foster high artistic values and I think that opening of the collections and depots is the best way to achieve this. For the third year, Odbrana Media Centre, as a specialized institution of the Ministry of Defence, fosters this mission and realizes it in collaboration with the museums, galleries, bequests and other cultural institutions. He said that tonight's exhibition opens only part of the treasure formed in the last 60 years and that there are almost no prominent artists of the former Yugoslav space who did not exhibit in the Gallery of the Central Military Club during the second half of the twentieth century.
The opening of the exhibition, which is accompanied by a catalogue with reproductions of all exhibited works, was attended by the Mayor of Jagodina Ratko Stevanovic and Natalija Pavlovic Sinikovic, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Information of the Republic of Serbia with associates.
Painting Exhibition Poetics and the fate of the twentieth century, which will be open at the Museum of Naïve and Marginal Art until 12 April, continues its journey in Vrsac Municipal Museum and Lazarevac Cultural Centre.
