Exhibition of Tapestries by Zagorka Stojanovic
At the Small Gallery of the Central Military Club in Belgrade, on Tuesday, 16th April, at 7:00 p.m, the exhibition of tapestries by Zagorka Stojanovic entitled "The Mandorla of an Icon" will be officially opened. The exhibition will be opened by Zorica Zlatic Ivkovic, an art historian.
The exhibition "The Mandorla of an Icon" is a cycle that consists of 28 tapestries created through a five-year work. The inspiration for this kind of outpouring of spiritual energy of the author was an icon of the Virgin of Ahtir mourning over the already crucified Christ from Miljko’s monastery. This exhibition was realisation of the idea that, through several tapestries, by sharing elements from the icon, their meaning is multiplied by different appearances.
Zagorka Stojanovic was born in Belgrade. She graduated in 1964 at the Academy of Applied Arts, Department of Textiles, in the class of Professor Dragutin Mitrinovic. She is a member of ULUPUDS (Serbian Association of Applied Arts Artists and Designers) and Filmmakers’ Association.
She has participated in more than sixty group exhibitions – October Salon, May Salon, International Triennial of Tapestry in Lodz, Poland (1978, 1981, 1994) and in numerous exhibitions which presented the national art in the world. She creates costumes for theatre, film, television.
The exhibition is open until 11 May 2013. Within the additional programme, two workshops and guided tours through the exhibition will be organised (on 23rd April and 09th May from 5:00 p.m.).
Working hours of the Gallery of the Serbian Central Military Club is every day except Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
