Promotion of the book "International aspect of cyber warfare"

Presentation of the book "The international aspect of cyber warfare" by Major Dragan Mladenovic was held today at the Central Military Club. It is an original work that sheds light on the possibility of military conflict regulation in cyberspace in the future, an area that has been very poorly covered in the literature.

On this occasion, speaking about the book published by "Odbrana", Major General, Assistant Professor Danko Jovanovic, said that the author had applied a systematic approach to explaining an aspect of war that has not been researched properly. The author explains, he added, that the essence of cyber warfare is based on the weaknesses of the system, while offering a definition of the nature of cyberspace.

Highlighting popular aspects of international law, bearing in mind the issues of cyberspace, professor at the Faculty of Organizational Sciences Mirjana Drakulic said that Major Mladenovic’s book offers system solutions in the field. As she pointed out, it is a kind of a first-born, a very comprehensive book full of examples, and therefore may be an interesting read for those who are encountering this issue for the first time.

Assistant Professor Zoran Jevtic of the Faculty of Security, in particular emphasized military use of cyber warfare, saying that the said act provides new knowledge and calls for reflection on the subject. He emphasized the fact that the area of cyberspace is not specifically defined in the international context, and each country should regulate this field as it sees fit. He said that this threat should be considered as a very serious security risk emphasizing the necessity to adopt a strategy at the national level.

According to the author, Major Mladenovic, this issue of cyber warfare is one of the most popular topics in the decade behind us, affecting everything from personal to national aspect. He emphasized that cyberspace brings new opportunities but also new risks and that the best example of this can be seen as a comprehensive security. For the soldiers, explained the author, cyberspace is an opportunity for warfare, and the U.S. Department of Defense has already accepted it as the fifth domain of warfare and one of the most significant risk of abuse, reflected in attacks on military systems.

Speaking about the importance of work in the wider scientific sense, head of the Department of Publishing Media Center "Odbrana" Dragana Markovic stated that the book "The international aspect of cyber warfare" was completely original, because the knowledge and literature on this topic are scarce.
