Presentation of the book "Princes Raskovic in the History of the Serbs"

Second revised edition of the book "Princes Raskovic in the history of the Serbs" by Dr Vojislav Subotic, has been presented tonight at the Central Military Club. Speakers about the Raskovics during the Nemanjics, under Turkish rule, their activities in Austria and Hungary, ancestral migrations, taking part in the uprisings of Serbian people and descendants, were Dr Peter Opacic, historian, Professor Dr Anika Skovran, art historian, Dr Jovan Pejin, Prof. Dr Sanda Raskovic-Ivic and the author.

The book describes the history of Raskovic family of Raska and Starovlah , which developed into nobility in the time of the oldest medieval Serbian state.

Opacic pointed out that the book is one of the best Serbian historiographies in recent Serbian history.

- This study includes a review and a comprehensive review of historical trends of old Raska and Serbian state. The author will, I believe, thanks to this book, hold a high place among the world historians for a long time. Thank him for the second edition, the historian said.

Professor Skovran thanked the author for his efforts to gather in the new edition more documents and information about the important lineage of Raskovic because they were nobles from our ancient times.

Pejin concluded that the book by Dr Subotic is very important for the study of families and family life, as well as their role in the history, and that he considers it the crown of efforts for historiography.

Professor Rašković Ivic pointed out great significance of this book for her and her family.

- The book "Princes Raskovic in the history of the Serbs", for me personally, is very important because this work showed to me its own roots. After the first edition already I started to explore the lineage of Raskovic. I thank the author, who introduced me to my roots, for the book that is very important for the Serbian historiography.

Author of the book, Dr Vojislav Subotic thanked everyone for their support, and said that he moved about 40 000 kilometers collecting material for the historiography. He also stressed the importance of the work because it is not only the history of the family, but also the historical processes in which families play an important role.

The research work lasted more than a decade. In the swirl of dilemmas, the author often copes with the contradictions of earlier articles on the patrician family of Raskovic. This is a serious study that shows important characteristics of historical events in Stari Vlah and Stara Raska, and undoubted and valuable example of the history of Serbia and the Serbian people as a whole. Studying the family of Starovlah princes Raskovic, Prof. Subotic has proved that they are those who were active participants and actors of many historical events in the period from 16th to the beginning of the second decade of the 19th century.
