The exhibition "100 works from the collection of Djuro Popovic" was presented tonight at the Gallery of the Central Military Club. According to experts, many works from Djuro Popovic’s collection of paintings and sculptures are the "top of the modern Serbian, Yugoslav and part art."

The opening speech was given by the author of the exhibition art historian Nikola Kusovac, the owner of the collection Djura Popovic and director of the Media Center "Odbrana" LTC Slavoljub Markovic.

Popovic thanked the audience for coming this evening and giving him support and his work which has lasted for 30 years. He also thanked the Media Center "Odbrana" for valuable cooperation and art historian Nikola Kusovac who opened the exhibition.

Lt. Col. Markovic commended Djuro Popovic on for his love of art, shown in his decades long collection of extremely valuable works of art of our national culture.

- We are honored by Mr. Popovic’s decision to present his collection to the audience in this way, in our gallery. We are grateful to him for sharing his love of art with us, and for presenting his collection gladly and often unlike other collectors, said the director of MC "Odbrana".

Kusovac remarked that Popovic was a curator-collector, whom he "strongly recommends".

- This is the man who acknowledges and allows to be referred to with respect, as a collector-curator. The curator has to bring the works of art to such a state that an expert can detect and recognize the true value of the work. Popovic has showed love, desire and passion in selecting and obtaining these masterpieces. I recommend that you take a deep breath, as you will run short knowing what you will see is going to be better and better. Enjoy what we have chosen, and that is only part of what Popovic has, as Kusovac observed.
