"250 years of the Shaykash battalion"-exhibition
This year marks 250 years of establishing Shayka (ship) border battalion, a river flotila unit formed in 1763 established in Southeast Backa. On this occasion, Media Center "Odbrana" between together with the Historical archives of Novi Sad the Historical Museum of Belgrade and the Military Museum as well as the Center for the development of shajkas, is going to open an exhibition "250 years of Shajkash battalion" which will be open on 27 June in the ceremonious hall of the Central Military Club.
Exhibition is divided into 13 theme parts, the whole exhibition has 32 panels with the materials of the Magistrate of the Free Royal City of Novi Sad and the materials from the military archives of Belgrade, Novi Sad Archives, the materials relating to events in 1848/1849.
The visitors will have the opportunity to see a replica of the Serbian dukedom flag from 1848 owned by the National Museum of Pancevo, a model of shayka dating from 16th c in the possession of the River Flotilla’s Command, shaykash soldiers s uniforms illustrations and uniforms from the manuscripts of Admiral Bosko Antic "Of shaykash soldiers".
Exhibition is a multimedia one enriched with a documentary on the shaykash soldiers from the Middle Ages in Komoran by Zdenko Pop.
