Press conference on the project dedicated to Milunka Savic
At a press conference held in the Central Club, representatives of the Ministry of Defense, RTS and the Historical Museum of Serbia presented the events that will be mark 40 years since the death Milunka Savic and honor the most decorated woman of the Great War.
First, there will be an exhibition of photographs and medals of Milunke Savic, which will be open from 25 September to 12 October in the Small Gallery of the Club, followed by the premiere RTS 's documentary film , announced for the start of the next month , the website dedicated to her is to be launched in mid October as a sort of digital museum dedicated to our heroine , in the meantime , the remains of Milunka Savic wil be put to rest at the Alley of the Greats in Novo groblje. All these events , according to Colonel Alexander Bukvic , from Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Defense, will represent a belated attempt to give the Serbian heroine her place in history which she by her merit deserves.
- The exhibition " Milunka Savic - heroine of the Great War " includes mainly playing Milunkinih family , identity , and war images , written mainly in Tunisia, Thessaloniki and Paris , many of which have never been presented . Its significance in the exhibition are especially prominent for the first time on display, decorations Serbian heroine , who are in the possession of the family . In addition, the character and acts of heroism Milunke Savic will be illustrated by a rich archive- copy documents , the flag of the restoration of the 2nd iron regiment’s flag Milunka was assigned to and uniformed officers and soldiers of the Serbian army of the period , from the collection of the Military Museum . The exhibition will be complemented by the portrait of Milunka Savic done by painter Sinisa Labus a gift of Society hosts from the Historical Museum of Serbia . At the exhibition , visitors will have the opportunity to see excerpts from the documentary film " The heroine of the Great War ," as Col Bukvic said.
Author Sladjana Zaric spoke about the RTS project, stating that the life Milunka Savic had not been previously seriously researched , but that was done by publicists and journalists , which resulted in numerous myths rather than facts.
- Our research is based on documents from the Serbian and French archives . We used quotes by Milunke Savic , published in newspaper articles and publications. In the film, Serbian and French historians and family members Milunke Savic are present. Documentary form is complemented by the rich reconstruction and dramatization of certain events , and feature scenes which illustrate important moments Milunkinog warfare . The film has used many , so far unpublished , photos and the only recorded video of Milunka Savic.
Documentary " Milunka Savic - heroine of the Great War ," directed by Ivan Stevens, was produced by the RTS , with the support of the Ministry of Culture. Documentary film about Milunka Savic will be premiered in early October on the first channel of Radio Television Serbia . Presenting the contribution and support of the Historical Museum of Serbia Project Milunka Savic and upcoming celebration of the 40th anniversary of the death of the brave Serbian warrior, Lidija Bogdanovic pointed out that a joint exhibition of all the museums in Serbia’s is planned and so far an agreement has been reached on this topic.
- We have established contact with the French , " Museum of the Great War " , placing her remains into the Alley of the Greats, right next to where her great commander Zivojin Misic was buried , numerous other events marking the death of Milunka Savic are planned. What we are announcing today is just a prelude to major project . We joined forces with the Ministry of Defence and the Radio Television of Serbia that would have allowed the general public to learn the truth about our Joan of Arc , said Lidija Bogdanovic.
In mid-October the web site on Milunka Savic will be launched, done by creative studio Phoenix . With its rich and multi-disciplinary content , presented in several languages , this kind of digital museum dedicated to Milunka Savic are just some way of restoring her to the nation’s memory and to undo the wrong done to her by pushing her name into oblivion.
