Pointing out that the rule of information to those who possess them , the ability and the power to decide , the author of twelve chapters cites examples of wrong decisions caused by insufficiently tested, erroneous , or even misleading data, intelligence services , mainly in developed countries .

A former intelligence with his insider and surgically precise movements performed a vivisection of events that once touched or caused the tragic consequences not only for individual countries , but also the whole world . Analyzing the success of intelligence , with the simultaneous failures on the other hand , in the preparation of landing the Allies in Normandy , " D-Day " attack on the Soviet Union , the plan " Barbarossa " , the passivity of the United States on the eve of the attack on Pearl Harbor , their failure in Vietnam , intelligence misconceptions and doubts the Israeli- Arab war intelligence failures during the Falklands war , deception before and during the conflict, Iraq and Kuwait in the Gulf War and in the end , Crawling in the dark before and after the terrorist attack on the World Trade center .

We must learn from our mistakes , but some of the misconceptions , mistakes and failures are too dramatic to allow them to happen. It is an axiom around which the intelligence work revolves, an axiom that justifies the existence and activities of the intelligence services . However , some misconceptions and mistakes can not be avoided . Therefore, the author in an interesting and illustrative manner gives examples of delusion and deception from which it can and should learn.

Considering the errors of the intelligence through the prism of historical origin and development of events that have had an impact , the British intelligence highlights some of the key stages in the development of intelligence. Each of these errors was accidental or caused by deceptive opponents , because of less or more tragic consequences led to the reform of the intelligence services of certain countries .

And as they were tragic , mistakes are , at the same time , were also instructive , says the author . Given the experience he has and which he presented in the book , there is no reason to not trust him despite the profession he is talking about..
