Exhibition Mirror of Time opens
The exhibition was opened by the art historian Nikola Kusovac, and the audience was addressed by the Director of the Media Center "Odbrana" Lt. Col. Slavoljub Markovic. He pointed out that this is another opportunity to introduce the rich collection to the public, created 60 years ago.
- During the past two years we have presented an exhibition of paintings of the "Poetics and the fate of 20 century ", in Belgrade and throughout Serbia. This is a new opportunity to peek into the collections and make a representative selection of sculptures. Our institution fosters cooperation with cultural institutions, and exhibition programs over the past few years were devoted to such cooperation, but often use the opportunity to present our collection. Therefore, we want to show that all the Club devotes special attention to this, said Lt. Col. and thanked all former co-workers and friends.
- We should thank the media center, because the moment has come to make choice that will not properly display the trends of development of sculpture as a visual discipline on the territory of Yugoslavia, but the value will still show the very essence. When all these works of art are brought to you, you get a picture that is a mirror, and is a witness of the power of the society at the time, said the art historian, adding that visitors should enjoy the setting as it is a question of time before once again have the opportunity to see something like that.
The exhibition presents a representative selection from the art collection of more than 1,500 exhibits and 300 sculptures, which generally have not been exhibited.
Conservator of the National Museum Risto Mihić restored all the exhibits.
Collection of Sculptures in the Gallery of the Central Club was formed mainly from the purchase of a solo or group exhibitions, as well as gifts from artists who once exhibited in the gallery. The collection includes significant works created during the 20th century, including the period immediately after the Second World War, whose analysis can be seen in the development of fine arts in the former Yugoslavia.
The exhibition will be open until 30 January.
