Proceedings on the Balkan Wars presented
In the Atrium of the Central Military Club today, an International Thematic Proceedings on "The Balkan Wars 1912-1913: new perspectives and interpretations" have been presented. Authors of articles are university professors and researchers from the military and civilian institutes from Serbia, Russia, Greece, Montenegro, France, Austria, Slovenia, Germany, Japan, Bulgaria and Macedonia.
The Proceedings are the product of the international scientific conference held in October 2012, organized by the Strategic Research Institute of the Ministry of Defence and the Belgrade History Institute.
The present visitors were addressed by the directors of the two institutes – Jovanka Saranovic, PhD, and Srdjan Rudic, PhD, while Milan Terzic, PhD, Senior Research Fellow, Prof. Milos Jagodic, and research associates Milic J. Milicevic, PhD and Major Miljan Milkic, PhD spoke about the importance of the Balkan wars in the tradition and culture.
Professor Jagodic pointed out that the period of marking several jubilees has always been a good chance for the historians to summarize current knowledge on certain historical topics, to examine it, and to present new information on topics they address, and Milan Terzic, Senior Research Fellow, pointed to the tradition of dealing with and studying of military history and the establishment of the Military History Institute.
Milic Milicevic spoke about the scientific gathering held in October, on the cooperation between the two institutes and future gatherings that these institutions will organize. He also thanked all the participants and authors of papers in the Proceedings.
Major Milkic, one of the editors of the Proceedings, said that the foundation of the edition are articles written on the basis of statements submitted in the abovementioned scientific gathering, but also the papers by the competent authors who were prevented from participating. He mentioned that the Proceedings contain five sections – the Allies, Serbia and the Balkan wars, the Balkan wars and the Great Powers, End of the Alliance and the Balkan war in tradition and culture, and explained the impact of the wars on Serbia and the region.
There are 25 texts published in the proceedings in Serbian and English, addressing the diplomatic and military preparations of the Balkan states for the war, the history of Serbia immediately before, during and after the Balkan wars, the positions of the great powers, war experiences and roles of personalities in these events.
