Promotion of the documentary film "Hero 1914"
In the Central Military Club of the Serbian Armed Forces tonight, the documentary film "Hero 1914" has been promoted. The film about the life of an ordinary Serbian soldier, peasant, in the first year of the First World War entered its final phase of shooting.
At the promotion of the film, the speakers were Pavle Lucic, President of the City Committee of the Association of descendants of the soldiers in the liberation wars 1912-1920, Philip Svarm, the author of the film, Nikola Lukic, Director, and actor Mirko Rudic.
"The whole century passed since the beginning of the First World War, which was described in more than 70 books. But despite all these war chronicles and historical volumes, nowhere the war was so universally described as it was done in this project", Pavle Lucic said and stressed that although life in that fateful year cannot be shown in one film, it can summarise the view of life then, which is perhaps even more difficult task.
The author of the film Philip Svarm spoke about "Heroes 1914" the most comprehensively. He explained the questions to which the film provides answers: "Who was the Serbian soldier, where was he from, how was he dressed, where did he eat, where did he sleep, how long did he march daily, how did he fight on Cer, how did he fight on the Drina, how did he win on the Kolubara? Basically, our film follows the course of an ordinary Serbian soldier.
The audience was able to see the short trailer, some of the scenes that will appear in the film.
Director Nikola Lukic spoke about the production and synergy during the shooting of the film: "The scenes that you have seen look so good because the entire crew went into the project with extraordinary energy, not sparing themselves, their resources and time". He said it was the only way to show what they were up to: "It has always been fascinating to us how our grandfathers and great-grandfathers, hungry, naked and barefoot, could stand in front of a machine gun. In the film, we tried to present how they felt at that moment".
Mirko Rudic, a journalist for "Vreme" weekly, had the last word, and in this project he was the actor in the role of a soldier. "It is hard, I will not endure, I go home ... We all talked that until we saw the finished footage and realised that we were creating something totally amazing and much more than what we initially expected".
