Exhibition of paintings by Ilija Basicevic Bosilj opens



Art Exhibition titled “The Fantastic World of Ilija Basicevic Bosilj” from the Fond of the Museum of Naïve Art “Ilijanum” in Sid has been opened today at the Grand Gallery of the Central Military Club of Serbia.
The exhibition was opened by Nina Krstic, Director of the Museum of the Naïve and Marginal Art in Jagodina, and visitors also heard speeches fom the exhibition’s author Ljubinka Pantic, Director of the Museum of Naïve Art and Colonel Slavoljub Markovic, Director of the Media Centre “Odbrana”.

The exhibition consists of 56 paintings from the Fond of the Museum “Ilijanum” that depict richness and variety of themes painted by the author and the materials he used. At the same time, the paintings show why Bosilj was named one of the 50 most influential painters of the naïve, marginal art and art brut in the world.

Lieutenant Colonel Markovic said that the cooperation with the culture institutions of Sid has successfully lasted over several years.

- All present exhibitions from Sid have been greatly visited in the Central Military Club. This is their third guest appearance and we look forward to accomplishing this cooperation and gaining possibility for the Belgrade audience to see the work of this world renowned artist. The exhibition shows that we nurture cooperation with the institutions whose main goal is nourishing the naïve and marginal art – Director of the Media Centre “Odbrana” stated.

Ljubinka Pantic pointed out that it was a great honor for her to take over a double role that night – being a guest and the host.

- I have the privileges of working in the Museum “Ilijianum” and being surrounded by Ilija Basicevic’s paintings every day. Moreover, I feel privileged because I come from Sid, a city that gace us two great artists – Sava Sumanovic and Basicevic, and for being here tonight again, in the Central Military Club – the author of the exhibition said.

According to Nina Krstic, she had the honor, and a both private and professional satisfaction, of opening tonight’s representative exhibition of “one of the most important world classics of the naïve, marginal art and art brut “.

- Ilija is a renowned name in art, and I believe that the time is coming for our most representative artists of the so-called marginal art. In the meantime, they are yet to fight for the place they have long had in the world with their art and art exhibitions in Serbia – Director of the Museum in Jagodina said and added that the exhibition is an opportunity for the visitors to “come in, if even through the back door, and open the magical world of the play of artistic elements in the works of avant-garde artist Ilija Basicevic Bosilj”.

Visitors to the Central Military Club have the opportunity to see the exhibition by June 14, 2014.
