Presentation of the book "1914-2014 Why Review"
In the Ceremonial Hall of the Central Military Club, on June 4, 2014, the book "1914 – 2014 Why Review?” by Mile Bjelajac, PhD, published by Odbrana Media Centre will be promoted to the public on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the First World War.
Clarifying the old and new controversies about the causes of the First World War, as it is written in the subtitle, the book is in part a response of the author and the publisher to the great interest of the public, which was spurred by the feuilleton on the topic of the review of the assessments of the role of Serbia in 1914, published in "Politika" daily during December 2013.
How was the subject of the cause to the Great War perceived in 1914, 1919, 1927, 1930, 1947, 1951, 1964, 1994, and how is it perceived today? How did Serbia fall into the situation where the loudest trends of the review are the same ones heard in the central forces media in 1914 and 1941? Why was the small Serbian nationalism and imperialism the most “dangerous” for Europe? Which moral values allow for the great to occupy, poll, “civilize” and at the same time don’t allow the same right for the smaller? Are we talking about standards in 1912 or 1914, or those in 2012 or 2013? How has the entire world gone back to political mentality from one hundred years ago? These are some of the questions that the book raises and offers answers to.
The speakers about the book, which is the first in Serbia to controvert the trend of the review of the role of Serbia in 1914, in a scientific and popular way, will be Prof. Milan Ristovic, the reviewer, Miroslav Perisic, PhD, Director of the Archives of Serbia and the author.
