Promotion of the book “Serbian Military Organization”
Today, in the atrium of the Central Military Club of the Armed Forces of Serbia, a promotion was held for the book “Serbian Military Organization”, published in cooperation with the Club of Generals and Admirals of Serbia and the Faculty of Security Studies.
On the reissue of the book speeches were held by prof. Branko Krga, PhD, Mile Bjelajac, PhD and prof. Vladimir Cvetkovic, PhD.
Prof. Krga, the author of the comparative analysis given in the preface of the book, said that the book contains a critical overview of military organizations of the old and the new nations, and that it can incite public’s interest in the newer times as well.
- The author was dedicated to giving a comprehensive analysis of the issue of military organizing at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century. The works has been compared with the contemporary strategically-doctrinal, normative and methodical documents of our army, mainly focusing on the Defence White Paper of the Republic of Serbia. The reprint is interesting and didactical and I fully stand behind my recommendation for everyone to read the book – Krga said.
According to Mile Bjelajac, an issue of whether such books should be written or reprinted arises.
- They should be. It is necessary to bring such books to the hands of younger generations. These works warn the public that the world hasn’t and doesn’t start today. The book may seem archaic to many, but its meaning bears full justification and raises many questions. The work is unrelenting in being our reminder to ask ourselves if we may so easily disown not only the institutions such as the military, but also the right to our own evaluation of security challenges today and in the nearer future – Bjelajac stressed.
Prof. Cvetkovic pointed out that the book is of such compactness that “it can undoubtedly satisfy the pickiest of readers”.
- The renewed knowledge of the book is a good indicator of similarities and differences between Serbia’s military organization in 1874 and in the beginning of the 21st century – Cvetkovic said.
This book, written in 1874 by Artillery Captain Sava Grujic, titled “Serbian Military Organization” can cause according interest in the 21st century as well, and for many reasons. Captain Sava Grujic, who played a significant role at the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century in Serbia’s military and political life, gave a relatively comprehensive analysis of the subject of military organization.
