Promotion of the books "Requiem for a Violin" and "Tales from Srem"
On June, 12, 2014, at 17.00, in the atrium of the Central Military Club of the Armed Forces of Serbia, a promotion will be held for the books “Requiem for a Violin” and “Tales from Srem”.
The novel “Tales from Srem” is a collection of humorous and cautionary tales that depict Srem and its people in dialecticisms and archaic words. With the desire to save his dialect from the hands of time, the author colorfully depicts different life stories, where emotions of love and hate, happiness and sorrow intertwine. Some stories will bring the reader to the brink of tears with laughter; others will incite compassion with the characters and their painful life experiences.
The novel “Requiem for a Violin” is an interesting story of life and demise of Ratko Jovanovic, a Rom from Srem, an honorable man, a talented musician and an excellent teacher. This story is told lightly, with the use of simple literary means, in a fine manner of the Serbian realistic tradition, with elements of melodrama and many colorful descriptions and observations on life, love, friendship, politics and war.
Speeches about the novels will be held by: writer Rale Damjanovic, poet Todor Bjelkic, Ethnology BA Zeljko Stojanovic and the author of the books Djoko Filipovic.
Excerpts from the novels will be read by actor Milan Mica Dudic. Host of the program will be Bosko Negovanovic. In the musical part of the program, performance will be given by the Romani Tamburica Orchestra led by Bane Jovanovic Saljika.
