Promotion of the books “Requiem for a Violin” and “Tales from Srem” held at the Central Military Club

The books “Requiem for a Violin” and “Tales from Srem” have been presented at the Central Military Club of Serbia.

Speeches about the novels were given by: writer Ratomir Rale Damjanovic, poet Todor Bjelkic, Zeljko Stojanovic, Ethnology BA and the representative of the City Library in Ruma, who published Filipovic’s books. Lastly, the author of the books addressed the Belgrade audience.

All guest speakers agreed that the works by Djordje Filipovic are an excellent aquarelle of the Srem mentality, which should be a bastion against the hands of time and preserve history of this historically and culturally rich part of our country.

- Filipovic makes up for his lack of professional education with his literary talent, and, with his exquisite gift of perceiving and transferring the soul of whom and what he writes to words, he proves that his life experience bears the quality he didn’t acquire at Literary Studies - writer Ratomir Damjanovic pointed out, sorting the novels “Requiem for a Violin” and “Tales from Srem” into the “golden treasury of the literary art of Srem”.

Talking about Filipovic’s works, poet Todor Bjelkic pointed out that the novels of this born-and-raised citizen of Srem had been a long awaited and expected successor to the renowned line of writers who had contributed to preserving the spirit of that part of the country in centuries of their fruitful work. Furthermore, it is best when, as Bjelkic put it, when the one writing about Srem is someone who was born and lives there.

- The most important thing is for literature to live. That is the significance of today’s promotion. More importantly, through Filipovic’s works, and the works of all other writers in Srem, young generations learn to love books and everything they can find inside them. That is why Ruma City Library supports our renowned author, who has reached the rank of Colonel in the army but now has the mission to, with the force of a Genreal, lead to a literary battle everyone who finds the inspiration in his works to follow in his footsteps – to reading, or writing – Zeljko Stojanovic said, on behalf of the publisher.

Excerpts from the novels were read by actor Milan Mica Dudic and the host of the literary evening was Bosko Negovanovic. In the musical part of the program, performance will was given by the Romani Tamburica Orchestra led by Bane Jovanovic Saljika.
