Lecture "Herzegovina in the Great War"

At the Central Military Club, a lecture was held today on the subject “Herzegovina in the Great War”, in organization of the Association of the People of Nevesinje, on the occasion of marking the centenary of losses and battles.

The lecture was opened by Zoran Janjic, President of the Executive Board of Association of the People of Nevesinje in Belgrade.
“Without ambitions to revise history, by organizing the gathering “Herzegovina in the Great War”, we wanted to point out some insufficiently processed subjects concerning Herzegovina, to reminisce and pay respects to our forgotten heroes , talented minds and innocent victims. Without remembering, we are neither a people nor personalities. Memories are our foundation, we exist through them”, Janjic explained.

The program was hosted by Snezana Lukic, and speeches were given by writer Rajko Petrov Nogo and historians Danilo Sarenac, PhD, Prof. Predrag Puzovic, PhD and Milan Gulic, PhD.

“Tonight, I wished to talk about one lesser known citizen of Nevesinje – Dragutin Drago Raovic, whose destiny and work reflect the drama of the Great War. But then I realized that I should not talk about individual heroes, but about one entire generation which has not been talked about enough”, Rajko Petrov Nogo said, and then recited 3 of his poems relying on the topic of the Great War.

Dusan Sarenac opted for one hero that reflects the entire generation.
“When we talk about Gavrilo Princip’s predecessors, Bogdan Zerajic is certainly an unavoidable topic. Little is known about him, and yet, his name has become a cult”, Sarenac stressed.

The program was enriched by the choir of the church of St. Emperor Constantine and Helen in Belgrade in Vozdovac. The night was opened with the hymn “Boze pravde”, and compositions “Tamo daleko” and “Srpkinja” were performed in the course of the evening.

The lecture was humanitarian in its character, because the visitors, to their own possibilities, left donations for the renewal of the memorial temple in Prebilovci. “Prebilovci is among the most striking evidence of Serbian demise, and so we should renew its temple – in order to stop the continuity of hardships”, Zoran Janjic said.
