Days of Iraqi culture

For the fifth consecutive year, the Iraqi Culture Week is being held in Belgrade. It lasts four days, October 6-9, and tonight it was located at the Atrium of the Central Military Club.

This year’s manifestation bears the title “Against terrorism with the instrument of culture”, so tonight’s guests had the opportunity to see a nicer face of Iraq, cultural and humane, through drawing and music. They could also enjoy the exhibitions of painters Hussein el Yemena and Vera Markovic, and the oriental instrumental performance by Saad Aladdin.

The manifestation was attended by Mohammed Nabhan, the ambassador of Palestine, Majid Hamlaqui, Ambassador of Tunisia, and Abdellah Zegour, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Morocco, and guests were first addressed by H. E. Falah Abdulsada, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq.

“This year, we opted for organizing a joint exhibition of an Iraqi painter and a Serbian painter, in order to build a bridge that would connect our two friendly people. Moreover, both people possess courage, patience and love for life. Politically, they are connected by the similar hardships they have experienced, such as war and sanctions. Geographically, two rivers, the Tigris River and the Euphrates go through Iraq, and the Sava and the Danube through Serbia. Iraq has civilizations of Babylon, Sumer and Asur; Serbia has Vinca civilization”, Ambassador of Iraq in Serbia stressed.

Guests were also addressed by the Palestinian Ambassador, who stressed that he was very glad to be in such great company tonight. He thanked the ministries for their help, the Central Military Club which has been a great scenography for their ceremony for five years, the diplomatic corps and other guests.

Afterwards, speeches were given by painters Vera Markovic and Hussein el Yemena.

“I painted roses because they remind me of the days I spent in Iraq when I was little. Also, because they remind me of the scent, richness and beauty of this country”, the artist explained.

The manifestation will be moved tomorrow to the Gallery of RTS, where an exhibition of photographs of Iraq artifacts will be opened. Who missed the exhibition setups at the Central Military Club, will be able to see them tomorrow.
