Books by Aleksandar Radic presented at the booth of Odbrana Media Centre

Promotion of the books by Aleksandar Radic "Eagle – view from the Yugoslav standpoint" and "Air Force of the Serbian Armed Forces " was held tonight at the 57th International Belgrade Book Fair at the booth of Odbrana Media Centre. The author of the book Aleksandar Radic, a retired General Sreto Malinović and Editor of the book Snezana Djokic spoke about the works.

"Eagle – view from the Yugoslav standpoint" represents the most comprehensive monograph so far dedicated to that aircraft. Some of the pictures and the data that the book abounds with were presented to the public for the first time.

"One of our problems as a nation is the lack of a positive attitude towards the past and the need to identify what we left behind to preserve and present later. This is exactly the story about "Eagle", the author pointed out noting that although this is a piece of war materiel, Eagle is directly or indirectly associated with tens of thousands of human destinies.

Speaking about the history of airplanes, Radic underlined that "Eagle" is a good example of how hard it is for a small nation to create a designing base for developing such a complex project, whose implementation involved a significant number of people, which eventually grew into the technically most complex aviation program of the former Yugoslavia.

Speaking from the standpoint of a pilot who spent more than a thousand of hours of flight time in the cockpit of "Eagle", the retired General Sreto Malinović recounted his experience of living with the aircraft during the war years of the nineties.

"My career was mostly associated with this plane. The feeling of power that a pilot has while flying in "Eagle" is something I have had inside of me ever since I performed my first solo flight in 1987. Over time, my confidence in this aircraft has continued to grow, until the moment when I began to treat it as a living being, my friend", Malinovic said recalling the days he spent in the cockpit of "Eagle", adding that “it is reasonable to say that this aircraft has fully justified its existence, that it is the pride of the assault aviation and domestic aircraft industry, whose days have still not passed. "

The book "Air Force and Air Defence of the Serbian Armed Forces" is a brief review that presents everything that fills a hundred years of the Serbian Air Force.

"There were ups and downs, many wars have passed, resources were lost, new resources were created, but during those hundred years, tens of thousands of people were wearing uniforms and emblems of the Serbian Air Force, and they are those for whom we should appreciate the jubilee we are celebrating", Radic pointed out, noting that the book should serve as a guide for the future.
