International Belgrade Book Fair opened
Tonight, under the slogan “It's Time for a Book”, the 59th International Belgrade Book Fair was opened, and will last eight days. This year’s slogan of the most significant cultural manifestation in the country sends the message that every time is the right time for a book and universal values. Guest of honor of the 59th Book Fair is the People's Republic of China which will present its rich literature and publishing production.
The Fair was opened by Serbian academic Milosav Tesic, and the visitors were addressed by Chinese writer Liu Zhenyun who conveyed his pleasure for China being the guest of honor of the Belgrade Book Fair.
- This is not only the largest fair of such kind in the Balkans, but it is also a symbol of culture that is the pride of all the citizens of the capital, and literature is the best way to understand a nation and its people – Zhenyun said.
Tesic stated that the Fair has proved for the 59th time that Serbian culture is cosmopolitan in its openness towards cultures of other people, and that this is also confirmed by the fact that China is this year’s manifestation – the country with one of the oldest literatures in the world.
- A good book of any kind takes part in creation of universal values. A valuable book, according to the measure of man’s possibilities, completes, enriches and creates a universal vocabulary of existence, and preserves the essence and being of every people – Tesic said.
The opening of the Book Fair was also attended by Deputy Head of the General Staff of Serbia Lieutenant General Jovica Draganic, who visited the stand of Odbrana Media Center.
Among over 450 exhibitors, including 33 international guests, Odbrana Media Center is also presenting its titles. As previous years, it is a specific publisher focusing primarily on the needs of the defence system, and also on broader reading public.
