Monodrama "Steel Warriors - Women volunteers in the Great War and the Balkan Wars"

At the Atrium of the Central Military Club of Serbia, a monodrama titled “Steel Warriors – Women volunteers in the Great War and the Balkan Wars” was performed today. The author of the play and the actress was Jelena Mila.

The monodrama, which was written based on original entries, authentic statements and excerpts from biographies of women warriors, presented the fates of heroines: Milunka Savic, Vasilija Vukotic, Milica Marka Miljanova Popovic, Antonija Javornik, Flora Sens, Nadezda Petrovic, Delfa Ivanic, Elsa Inglis, Katarina Sulcenger, Diana Budisavljevic, Zorica Sara Mitic, Sofija Jovanovic and Zana Merkus.

These “steel warriors” earned their respect and served as a shining example with their incredible efforts and commitment, and became a testimony of the inhumane times of the war. They still are, as they have been 100 years ago.

The play, which was another cultural event in the year of marking the jubilee of the Great War, was organized by the Association of the 1912-1918 War Veterans descendants and admirers in Belgrade. Numerous guests were greeted by Vidoje Golubovic, PhD, President of the Association.
