Book Fair promotion of books about the Young Bosnia and Voivode Petar Bojovic

On the second day of the Book Fair in Belgrade, at the booth of Odbrana Media Center, two books were presented – “Military Commander Petar Bojovic – Between Appraisal and Criticism” by Bozidar Jovovic and “Young Bosnia” by Radoslav Gacinovic, PhD.

Not many have, as Prof. Jovovic, told the very essence of the tragic relation of a state and its military in one sentence. The rule of history that “great events make great people, and that great people do great things” has been confirmed once again in the case of Commander Petar Bojovic. The last Serbian voivode of the Military of the Kingdom of Serbia and the Military of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes outlived the Kingdom of Yugoslavia and was probably assured of the Yugoslav misconceptions, in which Voivode Misic had never believed.

The comprehensive biography of recently deceased Bozidar Jovovic was read by his friend Prof. Radoslav Suljagic, PhD, who announced publishing another two of his unpublished manuscripts.

Major General Prof. Mitar Kovac, PhD, reviewer of the book about Voivode Petar Bojovic, stressed that not many could take on such a difficult researching task with such care, competence and professional devotion, to describe the life and works of Voivode Bojovic, and be objective and precise enough in presenting information that tell about him in a completely different way.

- The offered manuscript is the result of author’s hard work; it is of great quality and well-illustrated. Without a doubt, the author managed to write a balanced and very objective piece that sheds new light to a great historical personality as Voivode Bojovic, who had often and unfairly been neglected in comparison to other Serbian voivodes. This book will reduce the injustice at least a little, after it being inexplicably present in the time of his life and after his death. In theoretical and methodological sense, with the publishing of the book, the public interested in Serbian history, particularly admirers of military thought and works now have a good model of objective research of historical persons and events – General Kovac said.

The book by Gacinovic, PhD intends to shed light on the depth of the events during the beginning of 20th century that have changed the course of history, with great losses. Based on this book, it can be clearly confirmed that the organization “Young Bosnia” was, in fact, a youth liberation movement of members of all nationalities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and that this movement was founded only in Bosnia and Herzegovina as the answer to decades of brutal violence that the Austro-Hungarian Empire had conducted. Moreover, the monograph provides arguments for the claim that Serbia is not responsible for the assassination in Sarajevo and it factually proves that the Austria-Hungary would have attacked Serbia even if the assassination had not occurred.

According to the author, direct descendant of a member of the Young Bosnia Vladimir Gacinovic, he decided to write the book because he believes that it is his personal, family and national duty and his debt to the science he studies to give the public knowledge about the phenomenology of the creation and actions of the youth liberation movement “Young Bosnia” in the beginning of the 20th century.

Сајамска промоција књига о Младој Босни и војводи Петру Бојовићу- I had acquired my findings for almost 50 years, then rounded them off with the monograph and published them on the occasion of the centenary of the beginning of the Great War. I believe that the book will help everyone who seeks the facts about the Young Bosnia, especially the admirers of the life and work of these heroes. If the national history had been studied more thoroughly during the 20th century in this area, surely, it would have been an insult for every Serb to explain who Gavrilo Princip and his associates were – Gacinovic said.

Director of Media Center Odbrana Colonel Stevica S. Karapandzin greeted the visitors and stressed that this publishing house published around 70 titles between two Book Fairs, with the emphasis on participation in the marking of the jubilee – a century since the beginning of the Great War.

The next day at the booth of Media Center Odbrana is reserved for the book fair promotion of the book “The Aleksandar Rankovic case – From KOS Archives” by retired General Svetko Kovac, Bojan Dimitrijevic, PhD and Irena Popovic Grigorov.
