Promotion of new books at the booth of Odbrana Media Center
Works by Major General Miodrag Gordic, PhD and Major Ivan Petrovic, PhD “Missile Systems in Defence of Small Countries” and retired General Danko Jovanovic “Informational Logistics Systems” were presented today at the Belgrade Book Fair.
Beside the authors, the books were commented on by Brigadier General Zeljko Ninkovic, Colonel Prof. Joze Sivacek, PhD and Colonel Prof. Marko Andrejic, PhD.
The importance of units equipped with missile air defence systems in the system of state defence comes from the fact that their role is firstly fulfilled in conducting tasks in military operations in peacetime, emergency state and wartime. This importance is also confirmed by the experience from armed confrontations during the past decades that points to the fact that incapability of air defence to confront air strikes leads to swift defeat of the entire armed forces.
Professor Sivacek stressed that the book about missile systems can be read in a different way, although its subject is rather rarely found in publications.
- The book gives specific messages. We have presented a contemporary understanding of the subject, it is written in technical language, in great quality, descriptively, compendiously and in words of experienced experts. Moreover, its language is easily read and understood, and the book is available to all, although it is primarily meant for the technical and academic public and educational institutions – Professor Sivacek said.
General Gordic stated that the book is a result of contemplating what to offer to the public on the occasion of 50 years of missile units in Serbia, and how to link the past and the future at the same time.
- We were also considering who this book was for, whether we were up to the task of doing that and dealing with this subject. Almost five years later, we have published the book, and we expect for the public to give professional assessment of whether we have managed to reach our goal.
According to Major Petrovic, this work is important because it deals with an important subject, because “the system of air defence must be developed parallel with the development of arms” in states, which is the focus of the book.
The book “Informational Logistics Systems” is an important contribution to our scientific literature, because, in order to understand the needs of the informational logistics system realistically, it is necessary to know the way the military lives and sustains, works and develops, conduct tasks in the field of defence, achieves results, reaches goals and conducts missions. The success of any assigned mission of the Armed Forces of Serbia in the informational age we live in demands for them to be capable to use information.
General Ninkovic listed the examples of contributions of logistics in the current year – during emergency situations in the Republic of Serbia and during the recently held military parade in Belgrade.
- It is important to know what logistics system we have and what we can achieve. For those of us that improve informational logistics systems, this book is of great importance, and it is particularly significant for the younger generations, because it can help them learn what their predecessors were thinking about and how – General Ninkovic stressed.
According to Colonel Andrejic, the book is a universal textbook that fits into the concept of studying logistics systems in schools, and it supports further development of logistics.
- This work could only have been written by a man of logistic and life style such as General Jovanovic. The book develops the theory of logistics and contributes to improvement of the current state in the system. I hope that “Informational Logistics Systems” will help future colleagues continue researching this field – Colonel Andrejic said.
General Jovanovic, the author, said that the book’s advantage is that there is nothing it can be compared with.
- This is the first book in the field of informational logistics systems, and it should serve as the foundation for further advancement of future experts in logistics. The aim of the book is to see informational logistics systems as a firm support to the system of decision making, and I hope I have succeeded in that – General Jovanovic said.
Director of Odbrana Media Center Colonel Stevica S. Karapandzin thanked the authors and pointed out the significance of the fact that the military publishing house can also present works from the scientific educational literature.
On Friday, at the booth of Odbrana Media Center, two books from the field of history will be presented. Those are “1914-2014 Why review” by Mile Bjelajac, PhD and “Memoires” by General Svetomir Sveta Djukic.
