Exhibition about the military parade opened at the Central Military Club

Head of the General Staff of Serbia General Ljubisa Dikovic opened today at the Central Military Club of Serbia an exhibition of photographs from the recently held military parade “March of the Victorious”.

Author of the exhibition in Head of the Photography Sector of the Media Center Odbrana Radovan Popovic, and the photographs were taken by Jovo Mamula, Goran Stankovic, Darimir Banda, Dusan Atlagic and Dimitrije Ostojic.

General Dikovic said that it is sometimes said that the art does not march to the beat of the military drum and that art protégées do not listen to commands.

- The fact that these sayings are false, at least when it comes to the activities of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia is certainly confirmed by the work of the Media Center Odbrana, the institution located in the building that is one of the pearls of post-war architecture, built between the two world wars with donations of members of the military, reserve officers and warriors. We have witnessed here, at the Central Military Club, numerous cultural events in the last few years – prestigious concerts of art music, best fine arts and photography exhibitions, thematic exhibitions and noted promotions of newly published books – General Dikovic said, adding that this is another such event.

According to Head of General Staff, the military parade was an exquisite event on many accounts.

- One of the things that will stay remembered is the fact that the military parade was followed by more news reporters, photo reporters and cameramen than any activity of the Armed Forces of Serbia so far. From many photographs taken then, best photographs of photo reporters of Odbrana have been chosen for this occasion. They represent the parade in a documentary, objective way, with its array and atmosphere, and at the same time go to depths, below the surface of what’s seen, painting the spirit of the parade and the soul of the Armed Forces of Serbia, bringing us back to Nikola Tesla Boulevard, the way it was on October 16, 2014 – General Dikovic said, adding that, by viewing the photographs, everyone who had attended the parade will feel like they are seeing the “March of the Victorious” again, through the lense of Odbrana Media Center, and that those who had not attended it will feel its true value, beauty and significance, as an event that awakes joy, security and confidence in the Republic of Serbia and its citizens.

General Dikovic presented an acknowledgement to Radovan Popovic in gratitude for the prepared exhibition, and the author stressed that the goal of the exhibition was not to promote the photo reporters of Odbrana Media Center, but to show the great number of participants in the parade, who will forever keep the memory of this event.

Head of the General Staff wrote in the Book of Impressions – The exhibition of photographs of the “March of the Victorious” by a doyen of Serbian and military photography Radovan Popovic brought us back to Nikola Tesla Boulevard on October 16, 2014. The mixture of pride and strength of the citizens and their military is seen in every photograph. Members of the military will “read” the memories from the photographs, and I hope that the future generations will view and show them with pride.

The visitors were also greeted by Director of Odbrana Media Center, who pointed out several media headlines that described the military parade and its slogan devised in that military institution.

At the military parade in front of the Palace of Serbia, the likes of such have not been seen since the Day of Victory in 1985, professional soldiers of our state and soldiers serving military service marched on the occasion of marking the centenary of the beginning of the Great War and 70 years of the liberation of Belgrade in the Second World War.

Visitors can see over fifty photographs of the ceremony that included around 4,500 SAF members in infantry, riverine and motorized echelons, and photographs of flights of Serbian aircraft and the interesting performance of the Russian acrobatic group “Strizi”.

The exhibition is opened at the Small Gallery of the Central Military Club of Serbia until November 21.
