Award of the Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski
At the Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanksi, today, during the ceremony, the Award of the Memorial Collection was awarded for the 47th time for the best graduate dissertation from the national art history, defended at the Department for Art History at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Belgrade.
Upon the suggestion of the Evaluating Board, by the decision of the Management Board of the Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski , the Award for the academic year 2013/2014 was awarded to Marko Stojanovic for his dissertation Architecture of Banks and Savings Banks in Belgrade (1918-1941), defended at Prof. Aleksandar Kadijevic, PhD.
Addressing the guests, Manager of the Memorial Collection Jasna Jovanov, PhD spoke about the importance of Pavle Beljanski’s idea to establish the Award, about its tradition, history and its influence on forming generations of art historians. Confirming the Board’s attitude, mentor of the awarded, Aleksandar Kadijevic, PhD assessed the work as a valuable contribution to studying the Belgrade architecture between the two wars. Presenting the awarded paper, Marko Stojanovic depicted the atmosphere of Belgrade between the two wars, placing the focus on the so-called “bank architecture”. Beginning his years of research with this paper, Marko Stojanovic placed the results of his research into a broader cultural, economic and political context.
The Award of the Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski which has been awarded for the 47th time is unique for its significance in the country. Pavle Beljanski initiated it in 1965, with a special Gifting Contract, when he gifted the painting by Vlah Bukovac Velika Iza, rounding off the Legate’s work. The acknowledgement that has been awarded since 1968 has proven its justification thanks to great results of the winners in the field of research and recognizing new findings in the history of art. The award’s primary goal is to inspire young experts in the beginning of their career, which has been acknowledged and put into practice at the Memorial Collection through the possibility of acquiring practical experience, in the form of presenting the awarded work or realization of an exhibition and catalog.
The handover of the prestigious acknowledgement, as every year, was attended by previous winners, including professors at the Department for Art History, curators at most renowned museums in the country and true admirers of cultural events. After the ceremonial Award handover, letters of thanks were handed to associates and friends of the Memorial Collection of Pavle Beljanski who had helped realize the program of the institution during 2014, and the Charters of the Club of Benefactors.
