At the Grand Gallery of the Central Military Club, the authorial retrospective exhibition “Dragan Stojkov – painter of balance” has been opened. With many art lovers and fans of Vojvodina artist Dragan Stojkov, the ceremonial opening was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia.
Until December 20, citizens of Belgrade and other guests will have the opportunity to see over fifty paintings by Dragan Stojkov who joined the art scene of Vojvodina, Serbia and former Yugoslavia in late seventies and in the beginning of eighties of the 20th century. In his early works, the young artist already announced his inclination towards figuration and specific realistic painting which he has retained until today. His paintings are a reflection of current events in the world and art, and his creative capacities have been enriched during his studies at Accademia di Belle Arti in Venice.
After the opening words of Colonel Stevica Karapandzin, Director of Odbrana Media Center, who announced many beautiful and valuable artistic surprises at the Central Military Club, the creative work of Dragan Stojkovic was elaborated on by renowned art critic Sava Stepanov and eminent culturologist Ratko Bozovic, D.A.
Stating that the renowned artist from Sombor has, since his beginnings, remained in touch with current trends with his unique artistic concept, Stepanov listed Stojkov among one of our most prominent photorealistic painters.
- His artistic expressions, the most significant of which are figuration, hyperrealism, anachronism, neo-expressionism… show that current events are almost always in the center of his attention – Stepanov stressed, while Ratko Bozovic, D.A. emphasized emotions as one of the most important landmarks of art and thought of the painter from Sombor.
- Dragan Stojkov is predominantly a painter of harmony and emotion, an artist that, being in harmony with himself, achieves harmony in his art – Ratko Bozovic, D.A. said. – Floating around different media, with his paintings, Stojkov came from the medium of fine arts to music, to poetry. This is how, in a unique way for him, he saw Njegos and Beckovic, Andric and Tesla… That is how, in a poetic way, he perceived life. He has not chosen fashionable passing trends, but remained on the path of the lasting, the eternal. This is why he was able to portray historical, timeless persons and events in a contemporary, personal and unique way – Bozovic assessed the work of Dragan Stojkov.
