At the Small Gallery of the Central Military Club, today, the exhibition of the art club of the Association of descendants of Serbian warriors 1912-1920 was opened. The exhibition titled “In glory and honor of our country” was organized by the Association in the course of marking the centenary of liberation of Belgrade in the Great War.

Opening the exhibition, President of the association Ljubomir Markovic reminded of the glorious history of the Serbian people, stressing that that is where we should draw strength and wisdom from. – We have tried to fill this gallery with paintings that speak about the time and events from liberation, defensive and righteous wars that our country and people led. I would like to thank all of you who have helped bring those times to life – Markovic said, expressing hope that each next exhibition would be better than the previous one, because their goal is to give “a renaissance of a time for which Serbia is recognized worldwide”.

On behalf of the jury, the visitors were addressed by art historian and painter Branka Gostovic who stressed that marking the centenary of the Great War had brought many pictures and paintings back from oblivion, while also shedding light on some previously unrecognized authors. She said that the exhibition is not only evocative of esteemed Serbian military leaders, but that it also revives images and events that depict regular soldiers as main characters, people who carried out the Great War, and many more before and after it, on their backs.

President of the jury Predrag Stojanovic handed awards to authors of most successful paintings. Out of numerous submitted works, the jury awarded Dragan Grujic first prize for his painting “The Battle of Kolubara”, while the second and third place were won by Dusanka Hranisavljevic and Violeta Markovic. Acknowledgements were handed to Cvijeta Zekic Jurisevic, Darko Stoiljkovic and Dragana Tomic, while special acknowledgement was given to Ljiljana Stevanovic Ljis.
