At the Central Military Club of Serbia, promotions were held for the textbook of the Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy titled “Adaptation to extreme conditions” written by Prof. Dr. Sonja Radakovic, Head of the Sector of Preventive Medicine, and for the documentary educational film “Prevention of focal diseases in the Armed Forces of Serbia”, whose screenplay was written by Colonel Prof. Dr. Radovan Cekanac, Assistant Head of the Military Medical Academy.

Addressing the guests from the University of Defence, Military and Military Medical Academy and numerous enthusiasts of medical literature, senior staff of MMA and Odbrana Media Center, institutions that had supported the realization of the textbook and film, Colonel Prof. Dr. Zoran Segrt, representative of the Head of MMA and Colonel Stevica Karapandzin stressed the importance of media presentation of the works that, for their content and selection of topics, deserve the attention of not only present and future medical workers, but also of a broader audience.

- These works represent the result of a comprehensive scientific research of renowned authors that have presented over 100 scientific works published in our and foreign medical publications and magazines – Colonel Segrt said. Colonel Karapandzin presented an ambitious plan of the publishing activity of Odbrana Media Center for the rest of the year, in which, aside from publishing historiography works, works in the field of military technical literature also take an important place.

The book “Adaptation to extreme conditions” by Prof. Dr. Sonja Radakovic was presented by reviewers Prof. Dr. Vladimir Jakovljevic from the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the University of Kragujevac, Prof. Dr. Milica Ninkovic from the Medical Faculty of MMA of the University of Defence and Dr. Zoran Jevtic, professor at the Faculty of Security Studies in Belgrade. Stressing that the textbook “Adaptation to extreme conditions” is a praise-worthy scientific work that includes battling ambient stress, inseparable from military profession and unfavorable conditions in which military tasks are conducted, Dr. Ninkovic recommended the book for a broader public as a read that deserves reader’s attention for its interesting content and unusual presentation.

- Extreme conditions go without saying when it comes to military – Dr. Zoran Jevtic stressed. – in conducting tasks from all the three missions, military members are often in unfavorable, extreme conditions, during war and during deployment in peacekeeping operations and missions, or during clearing the damage caused by natural disasters. Military does not choose the conditions in which it conducts its tasks. This is exactly why the research done by Dr. Sonja Radakovic is important, as she partially filled the theoretic void in the field of her expertise with this textbook.

The documentary educational film “Prevention of focal diseases in the Armed Forces of Serbia” focuses on two epidemiological diseases that are gaining force with the climate change and global warming. Those are Lyme disease and hemorrhagic fever, whose causes, or reservoirs, are ticks and rodents. The production of the film was done by “Zastava Film”, and it was shot on the training field ‘Pasuljanske livade” and in classrooms of the Military Medical Academy.

The guests were then addressed by the author of the presented textbook “Adaptation to extreme conditions” - Prof. Dr. Sonja Radakovic, and the author of the film – Colonel Dr. Radovan Cekanac.
