Donation of the Ministry of Defence to the Obrenovac Library
Today, Minister of Defence Bratislav Gasic handed the donation of 534 books published by Odbrana Media Center to Vlada Aksentijevic Library in Obrenovac.
Handing the present of the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia, Gasic stressed that education and knowledge are what one always has, even after everything else is lost.
- The most valuable treasure the Armed Forces of Serbia have are educated people, experts, and this is why we chose to give back to our people this way – Minister of Defence stressed, and wished the hosts for the given books to have many readers.
Director of the Library of Obrenovac Ivana Janosevic thanked for the donation, stressing that the institution closely follows publications of Odbrana Media Center, many of which had been part of the book fund of the library before the disastrous floods.
- There were many your publications among the ones we lost, so we are very glad to have replaced some of those titles, and especially for the fact that we have also received some unexpected titles, from the field of arts, literature, medicine and history – Director Janosevic said, presenting Minister Gasic with two recent publications of the Library.
Speaking about the great help of the Armed Forces of Serbia to the city during the unfortunate events, President of the Municipality of Obrenovac Miroslav Cuckovic said that Minister Gasic had repeatedly inquired about the damage to the library and that he was not surprised by the today’s donation.
During the last year’s floods, Vlada Aksentijevic Library lost around 25,000 books, with grave material damage to the objects, some of which have been repaired, while the reconstruction of the main building will be financed by the Kingdom of Norway.
