Monograph “Intelligence Services, Terrorism and Fighting Terrorism” presented
A monograph by Lieutenant Colonel Dragan Savic titled “Intelligence Services, Terrorism and Fighting Terrorism” was presented at the Central Military Club of Serbia. The book was presented by reviewers retired Major General Dr. Bozidar Forca and Colonel Dr. Miroslav Talijan, who stressed that this engaged and useful work by the operative of the Military Intelligence Service and a researcher of the insufficiently researched scientific and social field represents a step towards better understanding of global danger in the entire world. Namely, the monograph covers one of the most sensitive fields of today – intelligence work and its place in fighting terrorism.
- Dragan Savic’s book, with over 350 pages and 37 photographs, represents the Security Service in all its aspects – Dr. Bozidar Forca said. – Divided in three parts stated in the title of the book, the author develops a truly current and interesting topic in the times when we almost daily face some of the security challenges. Considering intelligence services, Savic explains the term, division, general characteristics and principles of work of intelligence services, not neglecting to actualize the already interesting content. Depicting the system of intelligence services of today, the author of the interesting and comprehensive work introduces the reader with state and private intelligence organizations, describes their organizational structure, the way of work, and horizontal and vertical subordination. A true connoisseur of the ways and methodology of work of members o intelligence services, Savic names and explains the agency (classic) method, special (research) method, technical method, cooperation with other intelligence and security services and secret actions of intelligence services. Presenting them, the author leaves the central spot to the agent, stressing his characteristics as being the key to the success of the activity – Dr. Forca stressed.
The second part of the monograph dedicated to terrorism and terrorist organizations contains 72 pages and illustrations. In detail and methodologically consistently, the author displayed the term, elements and characteristics of terrorism, its types and division, contemporary terrorist groups and organizations, their intelligence security activities in realization or planning of terrorist actions... with the intention to logically follow with the third part – fighting terrorism. Namely, describing terrorism and terrorist organizations, the author makes the parallel with intelligence services and from there draws the needed positions for his view on fighting terrorism.
Stressing that Dragan Savic in his work on the monograph had invested serious researching efforts and given his important contribution to scientific exposure of numerous complex issues in the field of theory and practice of intelligence services and their activities in combating terrorism, Colonel Dr. Miroslav Talijan concluded that the work “Intelligence Services, Terrorism and Fighting Terrorism” is an important contribution to the research of one of the trickier topics of today.
- The monograph can be useful to all senior staff at the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces of Serbia, and especially to those who deal with and manage the work of the Military Intelligence Agency, and to its operatives. In short, this is a monograph that is vital for theory and practice of security management, a scientific discipline that is still developing, but also in managing the work of specialist part of the Military Security Agency that are engaged in combating terrorism and fighting terrorism – Colonel Talijan said.
