Exhibition “Poetics and fate of the 20th century” opened in Sombor
The exhibition “Poetics and fate of the 20th century” from the Collection of the Central Military Club of Serbia has been opened tonight for the audience of Sombor, after it had been seen by 20,000 people since its formation in Novi Sad, Nis, Pozarevac, Jagodina, and Zrenjanin. The Gallery of Laza Kostic Cultural Center in Sombor hosts this unique collection of the Central Military Club, which consists of previously rarely displayed paintings by artists such as Vlah Bukovac, Jovan Bijelic, Ljuba Babic, Lazar Vujaklija,, Ljuba Ivanovic, Petar Lubarda, Pedja Milosavljevic, Sava Sumanovic, Kosta Hakman, and many others.
The opening of the exhibition was attended by Srdjan Aleksic, Director of Laza Kostic Cultural Center, critic Sava Stepanov, and Director of Odbrana Media Center Stevica S Karapandzin, who stressed that the works displayed in this exhibition are just a small part of the works stored in the Gallery of the Central Military Club, which contains over 1,500 works by finest artists. The artists that held exhibitions at he Grand Gallery of the Central Military Club gifted their works to this institution, owing to which this collection was formed, along with the works that were purchased or gained through exchange.
With the analysis of the significant works in this exhibition created during the 20th century, including the period after WWII, we can perceive the development of fine arts in the territory of former Yugoslavia, as Sava Stepanov told the guests at the opening of the exhibition.
The exhibition “Poetics and fate of the 20th century”, which represents the greatest national treasure, will be opened at the Gallery of Laza Kostic Cultural Center in Sombor until 14th May 2015.
