Exhibition “Let us be honourable descendants so we can be honourable ancestors" opened

In the Atrium of the Central Military Club, the exhibition “Let us be honourable descendants so we can be honourable ancestors” was opened today, in organization of the Society for preserving traditions of Serbia liberation wars until 1918, and Odbrana Media Center.

Opening the exhibition, State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Issues Dragan Popovic said that “when the great and the powerful conquer a nation, they do not do it by arms only, but also by changing history and erasing the culture of memory”, and that the Society preserved the memory of history and values that must never be forgotten.

- We must remember where we were, where our ancestors had given their lives and for what cause, so they would leave the legacy of the memories to our young generations. If we lose the memory of our history and past, we will also lose our future – Popovic said, adding that the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Issues supported every activity related to fostering of memory of those who had selflessly given their lives for freedom while defending their country.

The guests were also greeted by Director of Odbrana Media Center Colonel Stevica S Karapandzin, who stressed that the greatest success of the Society, almost half a century old, was the fact that, with their selfless endeavours, they managed to preserve the memory of glorious events from the history of the Serbian people and introduce the younger generations with our ancestors’ fight for freedom.

Secretary of the Society for preserving traditions of Serbia liberation wars until 1918 Dragana Jurisic stressed that the Society regularly participated in marking of important events from the Great War and closely cooperated with related associations from Allied countries in the Great War.

The exhibition marks 45 years of the Society for preserving traditions of Serbia liberation wars until 1918. It contains panels with photographs, archive build, decorations and testimonials, and particular attention has been given to the founders of the Society – retired Artillery Colonel Dr. Dimitrije Pavlovic and academic Miladin M Pecinar.

The exhibition will be open until 10th June 2015 at the Small Gallery of the Cetral Military Club of the Serbian Armed Forces, on workdays and Saturdays, from 11.00 to 19.00.
