The book titled “Valjevo Partisans 1941-1942 in photographs by Rade Jokic” presented
In Atrium of the Central Military Club, today, a presentation was held for the book by MSc Branko Matic titled “Valjevo Partisans 1941-1942 in photographs by Rade Jokic”.
This is a monograph in which the author tells the story of the interesting and dramatic life of Rade Jovic – war photographer from Valjevo and completes is with photographs that testify about the history of the Partisans Movement in Western Serbia in the first year of WWII. Thanks to partisan Radomir Rade Jokic, ready to make photographs of his comrades and places they crossed, in conditions of constant combat and life danger, today, we have a clearer image of a very important historical period.
Speaking about the esthetic, historical and documentarian importance of the book, journalist Milos Jeftic and Dr Dragan Aleksic from the Institute for Newer History agreed that his was the most complete photo-material based on which the events from 1941 could be reconstructed, and that it was also a unique reminder of some forgotten heroes of Valjevo area.
The author, MSc Branko Matic stated in the Preface that certain texts from the book on Valjevo Partisan Division had also been published in other works, which he used as references, but that they had been shown in a new way there, because it was the first time they had been linked with photographs, as best historical sources, from which, if used correctly, valuable answers to many question could be discovered.
The book “Valjevo Partisans 1941-1942 in photographs by Rade Jokic” was awarded with “Dragojlo Dudic” award in 2014.
At the end of the presentation, the guests had the opportunity to see a presentation with the photographs used in the book.
