Monograph "Vuk, our necessity" presented
The book was presented by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej, director of "Orthodox word" Zoran Gutovic, Head of the Department of Serbian Language at the Faculty of Philology in Belgrade Prof. Veljko Brboric, Prof. Vojislav Jelic from the Faculty of Philosophy, art historian Nikola Kusovac, chief editor of the cultural and artistic program of RTS Nebojsa Bradic and the author of the monograph.
Patriarch, welcoming the guests, said that, with the precious book, we get to know the one who created our culture better.
- A great personality, a great mind, and first of all a great gift, but a gift that was used in the best way with great effort. What he did is a great feat, for which our culture, history and people have a great appreciation and gratitude. To him be glory, and we are left to never forget his work - Irinej said.
Zoran Gutovic explained that it was "a happy circumstance that today the main hero or the author need no introduction ."
- A long time ago, Vuk’s work made him one of the pillars of modern Serbian culture and a symbol of mixture and connections of Serbian culture with Europe. Many domestic and foreign authors have written about Vuk, his collected works have been published in several editions, but Vuk and his work still remain a great topic of our national culture – Gutovic said.
Thanking the guests, Vitezovic appealed for all the applause given to him to be dedicated to Vuk Karadzic.
- I merely did my part. The people will not perish if everyone does what they can. I hope that I have not done everything I can yet. I believe that, in my monograph, I juxtaposed Vuk’s and the people’s character and their biographies, and faced the people with the burden of its renovation, so that we do not spend in vain what we have acquired - the author of the book stressed.
The visitors had the opportunity to watch a clip from the television series, and the program of the promotion also included performances by actor Lepomir Ivkovic and Choir "Stankovic".
The monograph contains Vuk’s biography and the view of him as a cultural hero. It also includes some testimonials from contemporaries, excerpts from most reliable interpretations and assessments of his work, as well as songs in which he is celebrated by poets of all generations and studies on Vuk’s literary and scientific work.
