Promotion of the book about Milunka Savic at the Central Military Club

At the atrium of the Central Military Club today the book "Milunka Savic knight of Karadjordje Star and the Legion of Honour" by a group of authors was presented, in organization of the Association of Descendants and Admirers of Serbian war volunteer 1912-1918 and the Association of War Volunteers 1912-1918 their descendants and admirers of Belgrade.

The book was published in the course of the second issue of the edition "Serbia 1914-1918", by publishing house "Prometheus" Novi Sad and Radio-Television of Serbia, and was written by Dr Vidoje Golubovic, Predrag Pavlovic and Novica Pesic.

Today's promotion was also attended by family members of Milunka Savic.

The book was presented by owner of "Prometheus" and editor of the edition Zoran Kolundzija, editor of RTS and author of the film and exhibition about Milunka Savic Sladjana Zariz, editor for the publishing activities of the RTS and executive editor of the second issue of the edition Dragan Indjic and on behalf of the author, the attendees were addressed by Vidoje Golubovic.

According to Kolundzija, Milunka Savic was synonymous with patriotism, and a hero in war and in peace. The author of the film emphasized that there is a big difference between "where Milunka Savic is now, and where she was two years ago," before the film and the exhibition were made available to the public.

- We need to show the world who Milunka Savic was, show facts about her life, and not create myths - Sladjana Zaric said.

Indjic, commenting on the exhibition and publishing activities of the RTS, said that the book is a contribution to the marking of the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War.

Vidoje Golubovic confirmed that the authors explored the character and hard work of the Serbian heroine, and pointed out that there still remains a need to do research on her and her life.

- The motivation to write the book was to tell a story about women. This is the work with a lot of pride, but also a lot of dilemmas. Milunka Savic was not only a soldier, but also a mother, a post-war humanist, a nurse, a proud, working and honest woman. This is our small contribution to the memory of Milunka - Golubovic said.

In the preface to the book, among other things, it is written - The best known and most courageous among women warriors is certainly Milunka Savic. She fought as a volunteer in the Balkan wars and the Great War, was an example of courage and bravery in hazardous and heavy battles against the enemy. She did not give up even after being wounded, and after the recovery she always returned to the battle line...
