Promotion of the book "Serbian Army in the war with Bulgaria 1885-1886 - with stories by Branislav Nusic from the period"

In the Conference Hall of the Central Military Club, Odbrana Media Centre today presented the latest edition titled "Serbian Army in the war with Bulgaria 1885-1886 - with stories by Branislav Nusic from the period", by Dusan Babac.

Welcoming the guests on behalf of the host, Director of Odbrana Media Centre Colonel S. Stevica Karapandzin said that the facility he managed in the year behind us had had published several works dedicated to the centenary of the Great War.

- Last year, motivated by the initiative of the son of General Svetozar Djukic, we set ourselves another important goal - to publish manuscripts by Serbian commanders that have never been published anywhere - Colonel Karapandzin said, reminding that this year two such books had seen the light of day.

Editor Mirjana Sandic spoke about the occasion of the publishing of this book, the significance of the war for Serbia and the European countries, victims and heroes of the war, and Captain Katanic, to whom the author dedicated the work.

Associate Professor Cedomir Vasic spoke about the design of the uniform of Serbian soldiers from this period, for whose reconstruction the pioneer of uniformology in Serbia Professor Pavle Vasic was in charge.

The author commented on the causes of the short-term Serbo-Bulgarian War, defeat and the consequent situation arising in the country that year.

- The war resulted in the abdication of King Milan in 1889, but he returned to Serbia already in 1897, and as the Supreme Commander of the active army began its reorganization and modernization - Babac said, noting that it was King Milan who had laid the foundations of modern Serbian army, which was three decades later crowned with glory in the First and Second Balkan War.

By reading memories of General Staff Major Stevan Grujic, Chief of Staff of Sumadija Division about the situation immediately preceding the declaration, excerpts from reviews and Nusic’s story "Overcoat”, the promotion was enriched by actor of the Academy of Fine Arts Aleksa Radojlovic.

With the book "Serbian Army in the war with Bulgaria 1885-1886 - with stories by Branislav Nusic from the period", in a popular way, Dusan Babac brings readers closer to this forgotten topic and at a time when we are marking 130 years since the beginning of the Serbo-Bulgarian war, the only war conflict in the modern history of the Serbian state that Serbia has lost. Analysing the organization of Serbian Army, its activities in the operations of war, weapons, equipment, uniforms, and the system of decorations, medals and commemorations, Dusan Babac sought to explain the causes of the defeat, but also its consequences.

Attached to the book are 12 stories written by Branislav Nusic, representing his memory of the engagement in this war, supported by photographs taken in studios and in the field, which primarily describe the vibrant appearance of Serbian uniforms of this period.
