Exhibition "Little stories from the Great War" opened at the Museum "Jadar"

As part of marking the centenary of the First World War, today in the Museum "Jadar" from Loznica the exhibition "Little stories from the Great War" was opened, which was organized by Odbrana Media Centre and the Department of Valjevo National Museum of Osecina.

Attendees were addressed by Deputy Director of Odbrana Media Centre Lt. Col. Zoran Krupez and the authors of the exhibition, manager of the Museum Osecina Svetozar Gacic and senior associate of the Museum Milan Petrovic. The exhibition was opened by Goran Vilic, curator of the Museum "Jadar".

Lt. Col. Krupez said that the exhibition is dedicated to the "ordinary people who carried the Great War on their backs" and whom, with such an exhibition, we can repay in a way.

- The exhibition "Little stories from the Great War" shows Serbian soldiers as people who used to live in this country, gave their lives for the fatherland and freedom, for all of us who are here today and pay them a symbolic tribute. Therefore, the presentation of this exhibition in the area where the first battles occurred and the first victims fell is the perfect place to display authentic stories from the lives of warriors - Deputy Director of Odbrana Media Centre said.

- In the words of the older generations - the ordinary man always carries the biggest burden of the war. A warrior, a farmer, was the guarantor of peace in the region, Gacic stressed.

According to Milan Petrovic, the exhibition includes 15 stories about "ordinary people, soldiers, warriors”, about whom unusual stories have been told. He thanked the collectors, owners of valuable documents and weapons from the Great War - Dr Svetislav Stanojevic Sola, Luka Tesanovic, Miodrag Nenadovic and descendants of Stefan Vukovic, for their expressed wish to make the items available to the public, and so to talk about the heroic deeds of our ancestors.

Goran Vilic, curator of the Museum "Jadar" said that he was honoured that, after guest presentations at the National Theatre in Kragujevac and the Museum of Osecina, the exhibition will also be displayed in front of the public of Loznica. He invited all citizens of Loznica and other interested parties to see the exhibition, which will be open until the end of December 2015, and thus "pay tribute to all soldiers, but also ordinary people who fought in the Great War."

The exhibition consists of two parts - the panels contain printed texts dedicated to heroes that indebted their country, and the exhibits - equipment and weapons of the Serbian army from the war, important documents, medals, and more.

The exhibition "Little stories from the Great War" opened on 5 May at the Central Military Club in Belgrade, as part of the manifestation "Night of Museums" and the exhibition has so far been seen by about 6,000 people.
