Study "Strategic and Security Trends in Southeast Europe by 2020" presented



At the Atrium of the Central Military Club today, Odbrana Media Centre and the Strategic Research Institute presented the study "Strategic and Security Trends in Southeast Europe by 2020". The project was done in cooperation with the Faculty of Political Sciences.

The book was presented Director of the Institute for Strategic Research of the Ministry of Defence Dr Joan Saranovic, retired General Prof. Dr Bozidar Forca, research associate Dr Jasminka Simic, associate of the Institute for Strategic Research Prof. Dr Stanislav Stojanovic and editor of the work Snezana Djokic.

Head of the Institute pointed out that this institution begins the new year with an extremely important work and continues the good cooperation with Odbrana Media Centre.

- They say that if you are on the right track, you need to keep moving in the same direction. I believe that we are right on this path, said Jovanka Saranovic.

According to the editor, the study is based on research of a group of authors and it shows security trends in the region that affect the international position and security of the Republic of Serbia. It adds that the study with the force of arguments and with ease leads readers to conclusions that allow for a better orientation in the world.

Forca told the auditorium about the four chapters in the study and pointed out that the work can be interesting to everyone, especially to those whose "sphere of interest is the focus of the study."

Research Associate Dr Jasminka Simic thanked for the cooperation during the creation of the study "Strategic and Security Trends in Southeast Europe by 2020," adding that it was a big challenge for her to join the group of outstanding experts on the subject. About the study, she said that it is a "roadmap for better positioning of the Western Balkans in future international relations."
Dr Stojanovic pointed out that the ambition of the study was to emphasize the importance of strategic thinking, i.e. thinking and security in strategic environment. At the promotion, he explained the topics that the researchers examined, such as the Europeanization of people, energy security, long-term policies, long-term relations between Germany and Turkey and others.

The study is a part of a project that seeks to anticipate the main trends of development that will mark the immediate future of the region by 2020, which will have a strong influence over defining national policies of the countries in the region. The influence of the European Union as the main factor of integration of the countries in the region, the increasing importance that energy-generating product s have on relations and political orientation of the countries in the region, the interests and activities of major European countries, especially Germany and Turkey in this part of Europe, and the impact of the Hellenic-Israeli alliance on the processes that will significantly determine the frameworks of stability and security in Southeast Europe – these are the main topics with which this study deals.
