"Brothers in Arms" promoted in the Central Military Club

Promotion of the new edition of the Military Museum and Odbrana Media Centre, a book by Branko Bogdanovic "Brothers in Arms", has been presented today in the Atrium of the Central Military Club.

Speakers about the book were museum advisor at the Military Museum Mirko Pekovic, PhD, Mile Bjelajac, PhD, from the Institute for Recent History of Serbia, a representative of the University of Arts Prof. Cedomir Vasic and the author, and the audience was addressed by the Director of the Odbrana Media Centre, Colonel Stevica Karapandzin presenting the activities of that institution, previously published editions on the occasion of the centenary of the Great War, as well as the editions which are yet to be presented to the public.

According to Dr. Pekovic, the book can be read arbitrarily and the reader will not miss anything.

- You should not have any fear that you will not keep up. Each chapter is a story in itself, but together they represent an extraordinary and compact unit. This theme is inexhaustible and there is always something to be said about it. The monograph "Brothers in Arms" is a must-read for museum workers who store in their depots artifacts of the Great War, Pekovic says.

The historical aspect of the period which is presented in the book was addressed by Dr. Bjelajac, who pointed out that the book by its "visualization will nicely present our environment before any curious person in the world, whether he is an expert by choice or layman passer."

Professor Vasic pointed out that the monograph "Brothers in Arms" is the result of a serious, research and archival work.

- This book can be presented also as an encyclopedia of arms, equipment and uniforms of the Serbian army in the First World War. The author introduced many new things and so far unknown details in a way that leaves no room for doubt that this was not so, Vasic said.

The author Branko Bogdanovic spoke about the motives and aims to tackle the issue of the monograph.

- The book is dedicated to a common soldier, and explores how he was dressed, what he ate, how he lived ... The goal was to show brotherhood-in-arms, but not something that is well known, emphasized the author who was awarded a honorary membership card at the promotion by a representative of the Serbian National Association for Arms.

The book "Brothers in Arms" was published in 2014, first in Russia, in the Russian language. Thanks to cooperation with the publisher from Moscow, and understanding of the Military Museum and Odbrana Media Centre, this is significantly extended and supplemented edition of the same book, first published in our language. At about 600 pages with hundreds of colour photos, with text that is based on archival material from several countries, the reader will obtain a full picture of Serbian troops from 1914 to 1918, but also the fact of "brotherhood-in-arms" – i.e., the fact that Belgrade in the most difficult moments of its history had allies both in the East and the West.
