Collective of Odbrana Media Centre visits the Museum of Vuk and Dositej

Collective of Odbrana Media Centre, headed by Director Colonel Stevica Karapandzin, visited today the Museum of Vuk and Dositej in Belgrade. This visit was organized with the aim of developing good cooperation between the Odbrana Media Centre with other cultural institutions throughout Serbia.

The building housing the museum dedicated to two giants of the Serbian cultural history is the oldest preserved residential building in Belgrade. It was built in the mid 18th century and is a typical specimen of Turkish urban residential architecture. Initially it was used for housing of a Turkish aristocrat, and in late 18th century it was the French consulate.

From 1809 to 1813, the building of today's museum housed the Great School, the first Serbian educational institution dedicated to higher education of men. One of the founders of the High School was Dositej Obradovic, and among the first participants (who were mostly sons of the rebel leaders) was Vuk Stefanovic Karadzic.
