Exhibition of the Miodrag Markovic Memorial Collection of the National Museum in Pozarevac
In the Great Gallery of the Central Military Club, an exhibition of the Miodrag Markovic Memorial Collection of the National Museum in Pozarevac was opened.
Setting arranged by the curator of the museum, Violeta Tomic, includes 46 works from the collection that the diplomat Miodrag Markovic was collecting for years and bequeathed to his hometown Pozarevac.
According to Mayor of Pozarevac, Miomir Ilic, who opened the exhibition, the city has a rich cultural and historical heritage that it proudly preserves and presents to the public, and this collection has a special place.
- Miodrag Markovic gathered his collection with persistence and enthusiasm of a true art lover, possessing the refined taste and full understanding of the painting art – mayor Ilic pointed out.
The author of the exhibition Violeta Tomic, reviewing the life and career of diplomat Miodrag Markovic pointed out that the collection is a result of making company and friendship of the legator with artists. On this day, she said, we are marking 115 years from his birthday.
Speaking about the importance of tonight's show, Director of Odbrana Media Centre Lieutenant Colonel Slavoljub Markovic said that our military has cherished good cooperation with institutions in Branicevo area, and that the visit of this collection is another example of it. He also added, that this year's exhibition will round out this year’s exhibition season.
Miodrag Markovic Memorial Collection speaks about Serbian painting of 20th century, and at the same time about the donor whose selection of artists and works reveals the innermost part of his own soul. The collection was opened to the public thirty years ago, and this is its first visit outside the main house.
The audience of the capital will have the opportunity to see masterpieces by our eminent artists between the two wars, such as the works of Milan Konjovic, Marko Celebonovic, Mile Milunovic, Jovan Bjelic, Zora Petrovic, Pedja Milosavljevic, Vasa Pomorisac, Ivan Radovic, Franjo Radocaj, Ljubica Cuca Sokić and others that are little known to the general public.
The Exhibition will be open until 29 December 2012.
