"Confessions of Yugoslav modern art" exhibition opens at Pancevo National Museum

An exhibition of the works on paper from the artistic collection of the Central Military Club entitled "Confessions of Yugoslav modern art" has been opened at the National Museum of Pancevo tonight.

The exhibition was opened by an art historian and author of the exhibition Olivera Vukotic, and the attendees were addressed by Lieutenant Colonel Zoran Krupez, Deputy Director of Odbrana Media Centre and Svetlana Mesicki, Director of the National Museum in Pancevo.

Lieutenant Colonel Krupez thanked the Museum of Pancevo for the hospitality and pointed out that the exhibition of paintings "CONFESSIONS OF YUGOSLAV MODERN ART", which was formed last year from the rich artistic collection of the Gallery of the Central Military Club (which includes more than 1,500 works of art), has its first presentation outside the Gallery of the Central Military Club exactly at the National Museum of Pancevo.

- Painting reflection of the time can largely be traced through the entire art collection of the Central Military Club, and thus through the works on paper we are presenting to you tonight. Several hundred works were created in the span of a century – from the first decades of the 20th century to the second decade of the new millennium. Analyzed in one place these exhibits are a kind of panorama of artistic events in the century behind us.

Olivera Vukotic, the author of the exhibition, pointed out that it was not an easy job to make a shortlist of the exhibits from the rich collections of the Central Military Club.

- This is the first time that the Gallery exhibits part of the collections relating to works on paper. The basic principle according to which the works were selected and exposed are the participation of the author in life and work of the institution of the Central Military Club through solo and group exhibitions and art colonies. These works provide insight into possible trends of art of ancient times and are specific because of the immediacy of the existence of impressions. I hope you will enjoy the exhibition as I enjoyed the selection of works on paper, the author said.

Director of the National Museum of Pancevo, Svetlana Mesicki emphasized that it is a great honour to host an eminent institution as Gallery of the Central Military Club is, which has been positioned high on the cultural map, not only of Belgrade, but also of Serbia for many years.

- Before the citizens of Pancevo there is a selection of drawings, which present a great gift to the audience and fine art connoisseurs will be reminded of the author temporarily and unjustly, because of their quality, that disappeared from our sight.

Art audience of Pancevo will be able to view the works on paper of the most significant Yugoslav and Serbian painters such as: Sava Sumanovic, Pedja Milosavljevic, Milo Milunovic Stojan Celic, Ljuba Ivanovic and so on until 28 April 2016.
